JUVENILE NEWS

Little Athletics

A huge welcome to our 2016 (Orange Group) who joined the Little Athletics 6pm Thursday training this week. There was great fun and excitement from the group as they were put through their paces by the fantastic coaching team Dara, Maria & Mary. Anyone interested in their child joining any of our Little Athletics groups please contact our club registrar Heather at lambaysportsathletics@gmail.com prior to arriving at training.

Training for Coaches

On Friday night, Juvenile coaches Ruth and Taz and Little Athletics Coaches Karen, Jane and myself attended a very practical and informative Run, Jump Throw training session hosted by Athletics Ireland at Lucan Harriers grounds. This was the first of 3 sessions and first session focused on Sprint and Shot Putt. Conor Wilson RDO for Athletics Ireland put us through our paces providing us with practical tips for coaching children of all ages and stages. Our own Taz was also on hand to provided tips and techniques for Shot Putt and we all got the opportunity to practice what we had learned. A huge thanks to Lucan Harriers for being so welcoming to their fantastic facilities.

Newbridge House Junior Parkrun

Another very successful Junior Parkrun at Newbridge House with 93 participants. There were 6 listed LSA participants but we can see from photos there were many more...Please ensure all our junior members have LSA listed as their club on their Parkrun profile so we can keep track of all our participants! Congratulations to Little Athletics member Harry Fulham who earned his Half Marathon wristband. As always a massive thankyou too all the volunteers and a special shout out to Little Athletics member Nicole Hennelly who not only ran but also volunteered to do the First timer Briefing! Well Done Nicole.

Can you Help?

The Junior Parkrun committee are looking for help..."Would any Sunday morning runner(s) be willing to course-check the junior parkrun course before 9AM? Volunteer in advance, and simply run/walk/jog/cycle the 2km route and let the run director of the week know whether it is safe or not via text." if this sounds like something you can help with please get in touch.

TRACK & FIELD

Report by Enda Gavigan

Action packed weekend for ourJunior (U20) and Juvenile athletes. (Masters on track too)

Whilst our younger Juveniles were experiencing the thrill of competing at the National Indoor Arena, our older Juveniles were not having the weekend off! Far from it!

Track & Field Live was back in town on Friday evening with Suzie Linkiewicz comfortably winning both her 60m Races 1 and 2 with a best of 8.19s, just two hundreds outside her PB.

Michelle Branigan at 800m just gets better at every outing. Coming third in a very competitive heat, she executed a very well controlled race and shaved nearly 4 seconds off her previous, in a new PB of 2:32:60

Suzie Linkiewicz & Michelle Branigan have qualified for National finals in April.Suzie Linkiewicz & Michelle Branigan have qualified for National finals in April.

On what was a very pleasant Saturday morning, Anna Gavigan, Discus and Eabha O’Farrell, Hammer got their throwing season off to a flying start at the Dunboyne Winter Throws festival.

Anna secured a comfortable second place in Senior Discus with a best of 44.21m with Eabha just missing out on the final six cut with 34.65m

We also had Master representation with Enda Gavigan out in the Nia Live 60s with a not completely shabby (says I!) 8.34s race 1 and 8.44 race 2.

Connaught Masters

Meanwhile in AIT Athlone Dara Carr competed in the Connaught Masters to get in some more track time before the upcoming World Masters in Poland. She recorded a new seasons best of 29:46 in the 200 meters to medal 2nd in her age category and was just outside her seasons best by .03seconds to come in 2nd in the 60 meter sprints in a time of 8.87.. The 2023 World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships takes place in Toruń Poland at the end of March.

Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 4

Huge congratulations to all our athletes who participated in the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 4 on Saturday. Thanks to coaches Xavi, Fiona & Alison and the athletes parents for all their help. Great effort all round…. And we have another Dublin Champion!! 🥇Very well done Clodagh Goggins winning Gold in U9 300m on the back of her 60m 🥇 on Day 3 . Clodagh Goggins is the Dublin Champion in 60m & 300m but there’s no National Indoor Championship at U9.

Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 5

Huge congratulations to all our athletes who participated in the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 5 on Sunday. It was very exciting to have two relay teams competing: U10 girls & U13 boys. Great performances by everyone and well done to those who stepped up an age group to make up the teams. Hopefully we will see more athletes participate in track and field events outdoors from late April/May (dates to be confirmed).

A huge thanks to all the parents who supported the club over the 5 days of the Dublin Indoor Championships and thanks to coaches Fiona, Enda, Ruth, Taz, Sarah, Steven, Xavi, Alison & Dara for their support.
