JUVENILE NEWS

Our Little Athletics members and juveniles are continuing to train hard on Thursday evenings at the all weather hockey pitches. Our Cross Country group are continuing their dedicated Saturday training . They trained last Saturday in blustery conditions in Newbridge working on accelerations and bounding followed by two sets of fast/slow running. Well done all and thankyou to their dedicated coaches for the action shots.

Congratulations Mark Kelly

Huge congratulations to juvenile Mark Kelly who did LSA proud at the Operation Transformation 5k last Saturday at Phoenix Park. Mark was 4th across the finish line. Super running Mark.

Newbridge House Junior Parkrun

Fantastic to see so many of our Little Athletics and Juvenile members participating in the Junior Parkrun again this week. Please ensure all members have LSA as their club on their park run profile!! Huge Congrats to Kate Jones who was first female across the finish line in a very impressive time of 9:46 and PBs for Nicole Hennelly & Oliver Cullen. Huge well done to all who participated. A huge thankyou to all this weeks volunteers. Without the support of volunteers events like Junior Parkrun simply can't take place. The volunteer rooster is looking very short this week. If you can spare the time or are taking your children to the run PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE consider volunteering Here. It's lots of fun and your help is greatly appreciated.

Did you Know that junior park runners can also volunteer, once accompanied by an adult?? Thanks to Joshua Cussen for being the first junior volunteer last Sunday!

TRACK & FIELD

The Track and Field group were able to sit back this week and savour some drama and excitement from the National Senior Indoor Championship at the NIA where Ireland’s Fastest Man set a new National 60m record in 6.57s, Sarah Leahy claimed the Women’s 60m title in 7.3s, Jack Raftery set a new 400m championship record in 46.37 with Olympian Sophie Becker winning the Women’s 400 in 53:11. Meanwhile, Multi-eventer Rolus Olusa who trains with the Friday group clinched an excellent bronze in the pole vault with 4.55m. What a great inspiration to all young athletes.

A sincere thank you to the following club members and coaches who offered some of their time to assist at the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships Day 3 last weekend. They were coaches Sarah Minto and Steven Rice and Parents Ela and Lech Linkiewicz, Coman Goggins, Derek Jones, Niall Kealy, Catherine Bates and Bronagh Kelly, without whose help we simply could not support the entry of our athletes to the event.

This Friday at the NIA Live event we will have Suzie Linkiewicz (60m), Michelle Branigan (800m) and a couple of Masters on track also!

This coming weekend our resources will once again be stretched with Anna Gavigan (Discus) and Eabha O’Farrell (Hammer) at the Dunboyne AC Winter Throws Competition, our younger middle distance juveniles at the NIA on Saturday and relays at the NIA on Sunday.

Please consider if you can spare a couple of hours for the NIA Blanchardstown on either Saturday 25th or Sunday 26th Feb, either morning or early afternoon. A coupe of hours help would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck to all our athletes competing this weekend.

ADULT NEWS

LSA is a very successful family club run by amazing volunteers and we have become victims of our own success. This time last year we had 158 people registered with the club, this year at the same time we have 360.

Therefore, we urgently need new admin volunteers to support our current admin team who, along with their current committee job, are head coaches too. Longer term, we aim to establish a 3 year term for committee members with a phased handover of the principal positions (Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Registrar). Can you spare an hour or so per week to support your club? If so, please contact Dara or Jennifer ASAP!

Donabate Parkrun

Another amazing week for LSA at Donabate Parkrun with 12 participants including a first place for Anthony Sharkey in an impressive 17:34. It was a milestone parkrun for Cathal Brady who ran his 100 parkrun in a PB time of 20.23 paced by coach Fintan Counihan. Cathal not only ran but also volunteered, Well Done Cathal! Super running by all participants and thankyou to all the volunteers.

Operation Transformation 5k 2023

LSA was well represented at the annual Operation Transformation 5k in Phoenix Park! There was plenty of star spotting with Ryan Tubridy, Catherine Thomas along with all this years leaders and their coaches participating. There was a lively atmosphere and plenty of supporters on route.

Ian is a big fan of Operation Transformation and was delighted to meet one of this year's leaders Stephanie and Dr. Eddie and Dietitian Sophie.

A London Marathon Update... 9 Weeks to go

With inspirational Member and Coach Ali Conway reaching the halfway point of her London Marathon training, it seemed a good time to catch up and see how she is getting on...

"I have now reached week 8 of my training plan, where my whole week seems to revolve around the increasing miles at the weekend! Hydration and fuelling are constantly on my mind and I find myself going to bed early and driving to social events rather than have some beers!

I am EXCITED!

Training feels like its going really well and I am getting stronger each week, 2022 injuries and health issues are a distant memory and I am working hard! Flights and hotel are booked, Scottish family and couple of LSA’ers have also booked their trip so I’ll have loads of support on the day. It will be strange to run without Suzanne and her lip gloss but she has promised me a phone call to talk some nonsense and keep me going! I suspect that I am going to feel LSA with me every step on the streets of London, the support from you guys already has been amazing. Deborah has been helping with the raffles, Paudie has me stocked with gels and the special recovery socks from Fintan have been a gamechanger! Not forgetting the lend of the 'incase of emergency threadmill'! The company on long runs, tips on speed sessions and pacing have been invaluable, the enthusiasm and positivity from all in the club has reminded me what a very special club we have! Thank you.

Bring it on!"
