Day 3 Juvenile Indoor Championships Abbotstown

Parents Please Note: for those taking part this Sunday 12th please make sure to arrive at least an hour before your child’s race. We have some new style LSA singlets available to borrow for the race, otherwise the blue LSA T-shirt is fine.

Admission fee is €5 per adult. A huge thanks to the parents who have offered to help out on the day.

Calling parents of athletes who are available to compete in a relay on Sunday 26th February.

Please also mention to your child’s coach at training if they are available to be part of a relay team on Sunday 26th February.

Newbridge House Junior Park Run

Another amazing week for Junior park run with 88 participants on a cold & frosty Sunday morning. Great to see so many of our Little Athletics and Juvenile members running. Please make sure all members have their club listed as LSA so we can keep track of our members taking part.

Volunteers needed this Sunday.....

Busy weekend for Track runners

We had a busy weekend with both Juveniles and Masters in action.

Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championship

Days 1 and 2 of the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championship took place at the National Indoor Arena. Saturday morning saw Eabha O’Farrell kick things off with her U17 200m heat. She had a great run coming second in her heat but unfortunately didn’t make the final on this occasion.

Michelle Branigan was next up with plenty of confidence coming into her U18 800m straight final off some recent strong form. As expected the race was a brisk affair with Zoe Richie of Rathfarnham setting a blistering pace out front from the off. After the very fast opening lap, Michelle settled into a good rhythm grabbing 4th place in 2:36, just a second outside her recent PB.

Sunday morning saw the pair back at the NIA once again for the 400m heats. Great races from both girls, Eabha 1:05 U17 and Michelle 1:04 U18 which might be enough for Michelle to qualify for the National final.

We had 3 competitors for the 60m sprints U15s were Reuben Capocci and Liam Handley. Whilst the boys didn’t progress from their heats it was a great experience for them nonetheless.

Suzie Linkiewicz was in her first Championship race for LSA in the U18 60m. She came into the race with excellent recent form and secured an excellent second place in 8.19s PB to claim the Silver medal. Suzie now progresses to the National Finals in late March.

Masters TUS Athlone

Quietly slaving away in TUS Athlone were Masters athletes Dara Carr, Enda Gavigan, Anthony Sharkey and Yvonne Sweeney. Some very positive results from the oldies and some National medals with Dara taking Gold in the W50 60m in 8.84s and 4th in the 200m, Enda Silver in the M55 60m in 8.37s and Bronze in the 200m in 27.74, Yvonne claiming Silver in the W35 3000m in 11:40.8 and an excellent 4th spot for Anthony in the M35 3000m in 9:25:50, just missing bronze by a mere 0.1s!

Xavi is missed by all the Master crew...looking forward to see him back soon!

Assisting over the two days were Fiona, Taz, Ruth and Enda. Assistance from parents is very welcome and we need the help to ensure our Juvenile have the opportunity to take part in these competitions. Please consider giving a few hours of your time if you can, when the request goes out.

Next action is on Sunday 12th February with our youngest Juveniles in the NIA for the Day 3 of the Dublin Championships. We hope they have a fun day out.

ADULT NEWS

Donabate Parkrun

Saturday was another great day at Donabate Parkrun for LSA with Fintan Counihan first to cross the finish line in an impressive 18.45. Well done Fintan! We had 8 participants in total this week. A huge thanks to volunteers Cathal Brady, Willie Cahill, Andrew Forde, Pat McCormack and Ian Tiernan.

Trim 10 Mile

LSA was well represented at the Trim 10 Mile on Sunday with 28 members competing. Huge well done to Willie Cahill who was first in his age category. A huge thank you to 'Right Said Fred Photography' Fintan & Paudie for capturing all the action of the day.

5 Marathons in 5 Months

Huge congratulations to Suzanne Dunne who has completed her 5 marathons in 5 months in aid of the very worthy Down Syndrome Centre in Swords. Can't wait to hear what Suzanne has planned for her next epic challenge...

Club PR

For all our new members we are putting faces to names! This weeks group for introduction are our Club PR. Fabiana is the wonderful creative lady behind all our club social media, operating the club Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. If you haven't checked these out make sure you do. Louise Gilroy looks after all our track and field and juvenile news and updates, she also sits on the club committee as the Juvenile competitions Registrar. I (Kelly) put together the weekly newsletter. Our club PR is also assisted and advised by committee members Jennifer Tanner and Dara Carr.
