Athletics Ireland Courses

Athletics Ireland Forerunners Programme

Ali, Sarah & Sophie attended their first Athletics Ireland Forerunners workshop on Saturday. This programme assists athletes & coaches gain expertise in coaching, club development, communication and connectivity. The course runs over four full days of workshops and 3 short evening workshops with mentors. The programme is designed to equip participants with skills and knowledge to lead more efficiently in their coaching and to network across sport and connect with like-minded women all across Ireland.

Sarah described the first session as an amazing experience, with inspiring talks form a top Irish coach, a professor of Sport Science in DCU and the AI Women in Sport Manager.

Sounds like an amazing experience. Looking forward to hearing how the ladies get on throughout the course.

Athletics Ireland Little Athletics Leader Course

Myself, Wala, Ben & Maura (Special Olympics) attended the Athletics Leader course in Manor House, Raheny on Saturday. This course focuses on organising athletics games and activities for young children. The focus is primarily on developing athleticism through games designed to improve agility, balance and co-ordination. The course is very practical in nature with learning by doing as we developed games & plans & even competed against each other in lots of high energy games. This course equipped us with lots of tips, practical ideas and games that we look forward to using in our Thursday Little Athletics training.

Athletics Ireland kindly gave us a bag full of shiny new little athletics equipment including cones, hoops, low hurdle & beanbags for the club! A huge thanks to Ben for carrying this home on the train!
